Early Data Suggests Tenami Watch Parties Outperform Amazon Prime Video
December 5th, 2021
Watch parties can be a great way to strengthen the bond between you and your core audience. Since the release of Tenami to r/livestreamfail earlier in July, the Tenami extension has synced over 17,000 hours worth of videos for Twitch live streamers across the platform.
Unlike Twitch’s built-in watch parties for Amazon Prime Video, Tenami enables Twitch watch parties featuring content from Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Crunchyroll, and YouTube, giving streamers a broader selection for movie night.
Are Tenami Watch Parties Good for your Stream?
We used public data from TwitchTracker for a deep dive into Twitch analytics to understand the difference in viewer behavior between Tenami and Amazon Prime Video watch parties. We compared Tenami to Amazon Prime Video watch parties on a per-channel basis and found some interesting results.
Tenami vs. Amazon Prime Video by the Numbers
Because of the forced “Watch Parties” category for Amazon Prime Video, these watch parties are easy to track. However, despite the dedicated category for Tenami on Twitch, streamers watching Netflix will typically choose to do so inside of the “Just Chatting” section. As a result, we isolated Tenami watch party statistics from typical “Just Chatting” behavior to paint a clearer picture regarding the differences in viewer behavior.
We found that Tenami watch parties result in a 30% - 200% increase in follows per hour versus Amazon Prime Video watch parties. The exact amount varies from streamer to streamer. However, there appears to be a slight correlation between a larger average viewership providing a more considerable percentage increase when using Tenami.
The reasoning behind this could be because Amazon Prime Video is less popular than Netflix with viral hits such as Squid Game or Arcane. In addition, larger audiences pose more familiarity with other popular Twitch extensions such as BetterTTV, FrankerFaceZ, and 7TV, allowing their audiences to adopt Tenami more easily.
No Clear Winner Between Tenami and Amazon Prime Video Watch Parties
Viewership numbers, on the other hand, show a more significant variance between watch parties. Because of this, there is not enough data to suggest a clear winner in viewership between Tenami and Amazon Prime Video watch parties for the time being.
Both Tenami and Amazon Prime Video watch parties are subject to a loss in viewership as soon as a watch party starts. However, those that stick around find more satisfaction watching a particular streamer and are more likely to return in the future.
